Job searches and recruiting potential job candidates is often a time-consuming and expensive process, costing $4,000 or more to fill specialized positions in technological and creative fields. As customer relationship and talent acquisition software grows in use to manage an increasing number of candidates, Deloitte approached SCADpro with a request to research and develop the ultimate recruitment experience to humanize an impersonal process and connect the company's diverse client base to ideal hiring candidates. A multidisciplinary SCAD student team created a comprehensive app with a gamified structure to keep applicants apprised of their progress and engaged in the process.

Project approach
Deloitte's assignment emphasized the need for innovation in the hiring process for government and public sector (GPS) professionals, and the professional services firm's deep connections to civil service organizations made it an ideal starting point. The SCADpro student team examined the application and hiring process for the company's Deloitte Digital division as well as the hiring programs at companies like Google. Students identified four major issues that arose during job searches and mapped a "recruitment funnel" that tracked the normal progression of these efforts as they conceptualized their tech-enabled solutions.

The students didn't have the rules apply to their work, and getting them to think about what was possible and challenging us on our own orthodoxies and beliefs to try and take it to the next level was really intriguing to us."

Project outcome
In Talent by Deloitte Digital, SCAD students developed a comprehensive app empowering users to track their application progress and stay engaged in a company's hiring process by participating in gamified activities that offer insight on company culture. Within the app, applicants can explore office environments via Deloitte 360° tours, branded virtual reality experiences enabled by mailing folded cardboard headsets and brochures to initial applicants; companies operating remotely or without permanent office space would instead have video content highlighting company values. This successful collaboration was the first in a series of transformative SCADpro assignments with Deloitte that culminated in the opening of the Deloitte Foundry in 2023.
