Winter weather
Be prepared for extreme winter weather
Winter storms can result in low outdoor temperatures, unsafe road conditions, and icy sidewalks. Freezing rain, snow, ice, and high winds could result in downed power lines and loss of electricity.
Monitor local weather forecasts, your SCAD email, and scad.edu for updates.
Before a winter storm:
- Prepare your residence to keep out cold.
- Assess your personal emergency kit and secure any necessary supplies that may need to be replenished.
- Keep cell phones fully charged and have a portable charging pack ready in the event of a power outage.
- Have blankets and warm clothing at the ready.
During a winter storm:
- Stay indoors if at all possible.
- Stay off the roads; ice is often invisible to drivers.
After a winter storm:
- Remain indoors. If you have to go outdoors, dress in layers and limit your exposure to extremely cold temperatures. Protect your extremities with warm socks and gloves.
- Stay off the roads until they have been fully cleared of ice or snow.
