Michelle Magalong covers historic preservation in America’s Asian, Pacific Islander communities
Michelle Magalong, chair for Asian & Pacific Islander Americans in Historic Preservation, discusses the importance, best practices and challenges of preserving culturally significant areas and buildings within Asian and Pacific Islander American communities during this lecture.
Magalong has worked extensively in APIA communities in California including Los Angeles’ Filipinotown and Little Tokyo, and Stockton’s Little Manila. She also serves on the Scholars Panel for the Asian Pacific Islander Initiative Heritage Theme Study at the National Park Service, which is raising awareness of APIA heritage sites through placement on the roster of National Historic Landmarks, National Historic Trails, National Heritage Areas and national parks.
