Delta Air Lines: Uniform fitting experience
A partnership between Delta Air Lines and SCAD to roll out new uniforms for 30,000 Delta employees proved to be a perfect fit. From graphic and interior design to user experience and social media strategy, the project facilitated employee uniform fittings via a seamless, branded journey showcasing student concepts in 16 cities around the world.

Project approach
SCAD students set out to design not only a uniform-changing experience, but a life-changing one as well. At the Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport and Delta’s headquarters in Atlanta, students got an up-close look at the operating procedures and workwear history of the world’s second-largest airline. Moreover, they experienced firsthand the pride Delta has for its 30,000 employees. Following Delta’s partnership with lauded designer Zac Posen, students rolled up their sleeves to make the uniform-fitting experience a transformative event.
Initial concepts centered on the airline’s innovative attitude and encouraged employees to embrace change. At the midpoint presentation, three teams presented "Ready for Takeoff," "Above and Beyond" and "Fit to Fly," which included branding, floor plan options customized for actual airport locations, furniture and user experience components.
Upon Delta’s selection of final concepts, SCAD students completed client deliverables including interior design and floor plan renderings, a social media strategy, graphically designed branding elements and music.

Ekrem Dimbiloglu | Director of uniforms, Delta Air LinesProject outcome
Before the official launch of Delta’s uniform fitting events, students simulated the full user-journey experience of "Ready for Takeoff" — complete with a Delta history installation and paper airplane motif — at the SCAD Student Center in Savannah. A digital presentation showcased the diversity of Delta’s past uniforms and shared the branding and type treatment for the upcoming rollout.
Delta hired two SCAD students, Amy Chang (B.F.A., graphic design, 2017) and Rachel Watkins (B.F.A., interior design, 2018). Chang was brought on to supervise and produce fitting events — where all of the students’ concepts were produced and incorporated — in 16 cities around the world.
