Mia Paluzzi (B.F.A., sequential art, 2006; sequential art M.F.A. candidate) and undergraduate sequential art student Kelly McDonald have teamed up on a new Keenspot.com feature comic titled "Strange Someone," a spin-off series of McDonald's firmly-established feature "Sorcery 101." Keenspot.com is the most frequented Web comic portal that provides opportunities for creators to generate revenue via banner ads.

Sequential Art program

Sequential Art

SCAD offers B.F.A., M.A. and M.F.A. degrees in sequential art as well as a B.A. in visual communication with a concentration in sequential art, all at SCAD-Savannah and SCAD-Atlanta, through the School of Communication Arts. The B.A. also is offered online via SCAD-eLearning.

The field of sequential art encompasses graphic novels, comic books, comic strips, children’s books and storyboards for animation and film. Sequential artists combine words and pictures to form entertaining and effective narratives.

Students explore computer applications for sequential art such as coloring and cover design, as well as professional opportunities in freelancing and self-publishing. SCAD is one of few colleges that offers both undergraduate and graduate degrees in the sequential art field.

A progressive curriculum allows students to create/write a story and then pencil and ink the story or utilize digital sequential art applications. Specialized electives include sequential art courses in Manga and superhero comics, advanced writing for comics, painting for comics, cover illustration for comics, comic strips, storyboarding and sequential picture books for children.

Guest artists and visiting comics professionals have included Art Spiegelman, Maurice Sendak, Jules Feiffer, Mark Chiarello, Scott Hampton, Jack Davis, Mark Schultz, Brian Stelfreeze, Randy Stradley, George Pratt, Howard Chaykin, Lea Hernandez, Will Eisner, Scott McCloud, Axel Alonso, Rick Leonardi and Bernie Wrightson, among others.
