See the healing art of Guo Fengyi in SCAD MOA 'To See From a Distance' tour on 'Guests and Gusto'
Join SCAD Museum of Art adjunct curator Humberto Moro and The Drawing Center assistant curator Rosario Güiraldes for an in-depth conversation and tour of the exhibition To See From a Distance. This is the first major U.S. exhibition of work by late Chinese artist Guo Fengyi, and it is co-produced by the SCAD Museum of Art and The Drawing Center, New York.
Born in 1942 in Xi’an, the site of China’s historical capital, Guo began making art in her late 40s after debilitating arthritis forced her into early retirement. To alleviate her chronic pain, Guo devoted herself to qigong and subsequently developed a highly personal drawing practice. Producing an astonishing body of work in the last two decades of her life, Guo created more than 500 intricate ink drawings on subjects ranging from cosmology and Chinese mythology to traditional Chinese medicine and philosophy.
