Incoming student housing application

Reservation fee payment

To sign up for SCAD housing, new students Fall 2021 quarter and beyond must first pay the nonrefundable and nontransferable US$1,000 enrollment fee. Of that amount, US$500 is a nonrefundable and nontransferable housing reservation fee.

Students may pay online at scad.edu/enrollfee or with a credit card by calling 800.869.7223 or 912.525.5100. Checks may be mailed to the student accounts office:

Atlanta students
SCAD Atlanta, student accounts office
P.O. Box 77300
Atlanta, GA 30357-1300 USA

Savannah students
SCAD Savannah, student accounts office
P.O. Box 2701
Savannah, GA 31402-2701 USA

To ensure proper credit, include the student's name as registered with SCAD and the student's SCAD ID number (if available), along with the words "housing fee" on the check. The housing reservation fee may be paid as soon as the student is admitted to SCAD. The deadline to submit the housing reservation fee for fall is June 1. Students who plan to enter in winter, spring or summer quarters should refer to the fee schedule. Students who cancel after June 1 are subject to an additional US$500 nonrefundable cancellation fee.

To pay the housing reservation fee separately from the enrollment fee, students can access their account by logging in to MySCAD > MyInfo tab > My Student Account channel > “My student account online” link.

Authorized parents can access their student’s account at scad.edu/paymentportal. Click “Deposits” to pay the housing reservation fee.

Housing license agreement

The housing license agreement is a binding agreement for the entire academic year that outlines residence life and housing policies and procedures regarding behavior, room care, and condition. The housing license agreement is renewed annually while a student resides in SCAD housing. Students may be assessed damage fees based on the condition of their room after they leave. When selecting housing preferences, students must read all terms and conditions of the agreement carefully before agreeing to the form by following the steps as indicated online.

Housing assignments

Students are assigned to housing based on the date the housing application is completed, provided the reservation fee is received and the quarterly housing payment is made by Aug. 1. Although the reservation fee is due June 1, many students choose to pay it at the same time as the enrollment fee, which is due May 1. Housing assignments for students entering fall quarter are made in the summer. Once assignments are made, students are notified by SCAD email. At that time, assignments and roommate information are available through MySCAD, the university's intranet.

Housing preferences

Once students pay the enrollment fee, the admission department provides login information for MySCAD. Students who have paid the housing reservation fee may indicate preferences online through MySCAD. For more information, see the user guide to online housing preferences below.

Roommate requests

Roommate requests must be mutual. Students must indicate one another when selecting housing preferences online in MySCAD. All roommate requests are considered during the assignment process but are not guaranteed. If a roommate request is not mutual, the assignment is not granted.

Housing guidelines

New students are assigned to housing based on the date their housing reservation fee is paid and after their housing application is completed. Financial aid, scholarships, or other funds may not be available in time to meet the quarterly housing payment deadline. If the authorized financial aid does not cover the balance, or if it is not available by the housing balance deadline, the housing payment must be paid out of pocket. Financial aid authorization may be determined by visiting MySCAD > My Info tab > My Financial Aid channel > “Check my award information” link.

If aid has been authorized, be sure to confirm the aid is sufficient to cover housing, as all aid is applied first toward tuition. Students who have to pay out of pocket to ensure payment by the housing balance due date may be eligible for a refund once the aid disburses after the drop/add period of the term. Students must adhere to residence life and housing deadlines to ensure a housing assignment.

Late applicants/fees

Students who do not make housing payments by the posted deadline forfeit their housing assignment. Housing is subject to availability.

New student user guide to online housing preferences

Once students pay the enrollment fee, the admission department provides login information to the MySCAD intranet. New entering students who have paid the housing reservation fee may indicate preferences online by visiting MySCAD. Students are notified of their assignments approximately one month prior to the first day of the quarter. If you have any questions regarding the housing process, contact residence life and housing in Atlanta at [email protected] or 404.253.3200 or Savannah at [email protected] or 912.525.7000.

New student instructions for completing the online housing application process

  1. Log on to MySCAD with your nine-digit ID and password. If you do not have your login information, contact the admission office in Atlanta (877.722.3285 or 404.253.2700) or Savannah (800.869.7223 or 912.525.5100).
  2. Select the Residence Life and Housing tab near the top of the screen.
  3. Locate the "Apply or Review My Housing" link under the My Residence Life and Housing channel. You will be directed to the application screen.
  4. Select the appropriate application for the quarter in which you are entering. Click the "Next" button.
  5. Read the information regarding the housing license agreement. You are encouraged to print this page for your records.
  6. Type your initials in the box after each section. Students are responsible for reading the license agreement in its entirety prior to agreeing to it.
  7. Click the button next to "I agree" at the bottom of the page. By selecting "I agree," you are agreeing to the SCAD housing license agreement for the period of time outlined in the agreement.
  8. Click the "Next" button.
  9. Submit your personal preferences. The preferences indicated are used to determine hall placement, roommate selection, and other factors. It is very important for students to answer these questions honestly and completely when selecting housing preferences. Click "Continue" when you are finished.
  10. Share your home mailing address and two emergency contacts, saving each one separately. Click “Continue” when you are finished.
  11. Enter your living preferences, which are used to determine hall placement based on the spaces currently available. Select a choice number. You must select a number that has not already been used. If you wish to change a previous selection, you should first remove it before adding a new one.
  12. Select specific residence hall for request.
  13. Select a residence hall from the new dropdown menu that appears. Click "Add request." To add additional preferences, repeat steps 10-12. You may indicate up to three preferences.
  14. Click "Complete Application" when you are finished. A confirmation page will be displayed signifying that you have completed the application process. You will also receive an immediate confirmation email to your SCAD email account verifying your application, along with a copy of the license agreement. If you are under 18 years of age at the time of completing the housing application, your parent or guardian will receive an email requesting confirmation of your application. The parent/guardian must follow the directions in the email to confirm your application before the housing application will be considered complete.
  15. Log out of MySCAD and close the browser window.

Submitting roommate requests

All students who have a specific roommate request are required to submit it online. Remember all roommate requests must be mutual for the request to be considered. Roommate requests may be submitted online beginning in early May.

  1. Sign in to MySCAD with your nine-digit ID and password.
  2. Select the Residence Life and Housing tab near the top of the screen.
  3. Locate the "MyHousing" link under the My Residence Life and Housing channel.
  4. Click on "Room selection" on the left side of the page.
  5. Click on "Roommate selection" from the submenu that appears to the right.
  6. Type in the student's last name. If the person you wish to request as a roommate does not appear, that student may not have paid the housing reservation fee or completed the housing application yet. You may add up to three roommate preferences. Click "request student as roommate" after each name.
  7. Follow the same procedures for each roommate to ensure the request is mutual. Non-mutual requests will not be honored. If "does not match" appears next to your requested roommate's name, that student has not completed the roommate request. Contact your requested roommate and encourage the student to complete the information.
  8. Remind your requested roommate, if necessary, to also request you by clicking "Remind" next to your requested roommate’s name if "does not match" is listed. This will send an automatic email to your requested roommate to log in and complete the process. If "match" appears next to your requested roommate's name, you and your requested roommate have submitted a mutual request.
  9. Click on the “Home/Overview” link to review your roommate preferences. You and your requested roommate(s) will receive confirmation emails verifying your requests.
  10. Log out of MySCAD and close the browser window.
