Carolyn A. Schroeder exhibition: 'The Liminal Ecology'
Infused with magic, myth, and sensation, Carolyn A. Schroeder’s works investigate the confluence of divergent species in the natural world, relaying enigmatic narratives of shapeshifting, mutation, and the struggle to survive. Sentient beings and matter of all manifestations cling to each other, attempting to fend off the inevitable, or perhaps discovering that something more wondrous might occur: adaptation. In her thesis exhibition The Liminal Ecology, Schroeder presents a series of paintings and drawings that engage resources native to Hilton Head Island, S.C., and the littoral spaces they occupy. Sketching, photographing, and researching the cells, bones, sinew, and vacillating structures of life forms, she imagines what it might be like to experience the stories and fates of her fellow living beings.
