Jisun Lee thesis exhibition: 'Utopia is the place'
In Utopia is the place, Jisun Lee (M.F.A. painting) tangles dense jungle landscapes in vivid pastel acid colors, originating fantastical and undefinable destinations that reflect on the coexistence of worlds. Combining coarse pumice gel and fiber paste with oil and acrylic paint, she lends her works unique textures that amplify their complex, and at times frenzied, atmospheres.
Lee’s works channel her experiences of two cultures (American and Korean), as well as her roles as artist and mother, and are intended to function as navigational tools, guiding others — most importantly, her 4-year-old daughter — toward their own inner utopias. Attuned to nature’s instinct to pass life from generation to generation, Lee’s longing for a better world grows deeper — and her dream journeys continue.
Gallery hours: Monday–Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The exhibition and reception are free and open to the public.
