See work by 'Black Panther' muralist Brandon Sadler at virtual studio visit
Tour the studio of SCAD alum Brandon Sadler (B.F.A., illustration, 2009), founder of the Atlanta-based studio Rising Red Lotus. Sadler’s work is prominently featured in Shuri’s lab in the film Black Panther. He is well known for murals that balance ancient and modern techniques, incorporating text, illustration, and painting.
Sadler was recently commissioned to create a series of site-specific wall paintings and digital illustrations for the exhibition Ruth E. Carter: Afrofuturism in Costume Design, on view at SCAD FASH Museum of Fashion + Film in Atlanta through Sept. 12. Inspired by African masks and Nigerian textiles, Sadler’s work connects Carter’s celebrated costume designs across various time periods and themes within the overarching concept of Afrofuturism.
Sadler’s clients include Marvel Studios, Disney, Adidas, and Google, as well as the Atlanta BeltLine and the Afropunk Festival. His work has been the subject of both solo and group exhibitions and is held in the collection of the High Museum, Atlanta. Sadler was honored with a SCAD Distinguished Alumnus Award in 2019.
