Justin Armstrong thesis exhibition: 'Connecting Distance'
SCAD presents Connecting Distance, a thesis exhibition of optical-effect paintings by Justin Armstrong (M.F.A. painting; B.F.A., painting, 2016). Armstrong uses materials like holographic vinyl and fluorescent Plexiglas, playing with perception through a formal bombardment of bright, shiny imagery — a more-means-more methodology. Moving beyond the stagnant image, these works invite the viewer to explore the nuances of perspective and seek deeper truths about perception. What is seen at first glance is not exactly as it appears to be.
Reception: Friday, Jan. 17, 2020, 6–8 p.m.
The exhibition and reception are free and open to the public.
Gallery hours: Monday–Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
