Patricia K. Hecht thesis exhibition: 'YOU ARE HERE → | EXIT UNLIKELY |'

SCAD presents "YOU ARE HERE → | EXIT UNLIKELY |," a thesis exhibition by Patricia K. Hecht (M.F.A. painting; B.F.A., art history, 2007). The artist’s thesis work considers architecture and mapping as modes to explore the intersections of political, social or historical structures that are intrinsically tied to identities of persons inhabiting various spaces. Hecht creates two-dimensional works through carefully drawn, straight black lines, playing with the tension between an overall abstract image and the sense of movement created through the variation of line weight.

These abstract paintings are sourced from public images of floor plans, urban sites or aerial views of roads that the artist reconfigures and repeats into dense, impenetrable patterns. These new images orient viewers not in the logic of planned spaces but rather in a dizzying maze without an exit.
