Native American artist Edgar Heap of Birds to discuss his practice
In "Heads Above Grass: Provocative Native American Public Art and Studio Practice," award-winning Native American artist Edgar Heap of Birds will discuss his body of work, which includes public art, large-scale drawings, paintings, prints and monumental porcelain enamel on steel outdoor sculpture.
Addressing notions of Native American identity, the artist explores issues facing contemporary artists on a local, national and international basis.
Heap of Birds has taught as a visiting professor at Yale University, Rhode Island School of Design and University of Cape Town. At the University of Oklahoma, he teaches Native American studies and fine arts.
Heap of Birds’ work has been exhibited at The Museum of Modern Art, Whitney Museum of American Art, National Museum of the American Indian, Smithsonian Institution and the Venice Biennale.

The lecture is free for students, professors and alumni with valid ID and open to the public with cost of museum admission.
