Travel with Sonya Clark from ‘Hair to There and Back Again’

Sonya Clark works with a variety of materials including human hair and combs to address race, culture, class and history.  Influenced by her maternal grandmother, a professional tailor, she developed an appreciation for the value of the handmade.

In this lecture, Clark will draw from her African, Scottish and Caribbean roots to discuss the evolution of her work, exploring the symbolic interpretations of materials and weaving processes.

Clark's work has been exhibited in more than 250 museums and galleries in Europe, Africa, Asia, South America, Australia and throughout the U.S.

Presented by the SCAD Museum of Art and the American Craft Council

The lecture is free and open to the public.
