Marvel at the drama-filled existence of 'Mikey and Nicky' at Trustees Theater screening 

Celebrate the 50th anniversary of Elaine May’s Mikey and Nicky, an unsung American cinematic masterpiece, as it returns to the big screen in a gorgeous 4K restoration. John Cassavetes and Peter Falk bring their explosive chemistry to May’s brilliant and deeply personal gangster film, portraying lifelong friends whose relationship unravels over one desperate night of loyalty, paranoia, and betrayal.

Perhaps most interestingly, the drama behind the camera became nearly as legendary as the film itself: May and the studio waged a legendary battle over control of the film's editing. Mikey and Nicky reportedly went through three cameras and shot three times as much footage as Gone with the Wind, with May even allegedly hiding reels from the studio. The studio retaliated with a minimal release and a wonderfully hostile tagline: “You’re not gonna like these guys.” Fifty years later, May’s masterpiece endures as a daring landmark: bruising, funny, unpredictable, and emotionally devastating.
