Contribute to artist studio culture at SCAD deFINE ART professional practices panel
At this year’s SCAD deFINE ART professional practices panel, hear from SCAD graduates excelling in the dynamic, high-level studio environments of today’s most influential artists. This conversation offers invaluable insight into the practical and professional skills required to succeed in a studio environment, such as archiving, budgeting, project coordination, and day-to-day studio operations.
Beyond logistics, the alumni panelists will also speak to how working closely with established artists can deeply inform and inspire your own creative practice. Learn how mentorship, exposure to new materials and methods, and the rhythms of a professional studio can shape your artistic voice and career path. Whether you aspire to join an established artist’s thriving studio or to lead your own team, this panel is a vital opportunity to understand the real-world experiences that bridge education and professional practice.

About the speakers
Since 2021, Jarrett Christian (b. 1982, Pittsburgh, Penn.; lives and works in Hudson, N.Y.) has worked alongside famed artist Liliana Porter, widely considered to be the matriarch of Latin American Conceptualism. Christian supports the artist’s studio practice, museum acquisitions, exhibition preparation, and relationships with more than 10 galleries worldwide. In addition, Christian maintains his own studio in the Hudson Valley, working across mediums including drawing, painting, printmaking, photography, and sculpture. Christian’s work is held in the collections of the Norman Rockwell Museum, Stockbridge, Mass., and Franklin Furnace, Long Island City, N.Y. His work has been exhibited at Day & Night Projects, Atlanta; the Denver Art Museum; the New York Historical; and the Henry Ford Museum, Dearborn, Mich.
Kirby Crone (b. 1989, Houston, Texas; lives and works in Hudson, N.Y.) received her B.A. from Southwestern University and her M.F.A. in painting from the Savannah College of Art and Design. Cloud gazing, long walks, meandering drives, people watching, and travel are all integral parts of her practice — moments and observations that make their way into abstracted landscapes. Crone has shown widely in the Upstate region, including a mural in Sharon, Conn., as part of the Hudson Eye, as well as at Basilica’s Back Gallery, The Fireplace Project, CREATE Catskill, and Gallery 495. Alongside her studio practice, she has worked closely with Jeffrey Gibson for more than a decade, executing countless paintings and overseeing many mural installations including at the Brooklyn Museum, New York; Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art, North Adams; the New Museum, New York; Museu d’Art Contemporani de Barcelona; the Frist Art Museum, Nashville; and the American Pavillion at the Venice Biennale.
Dylan DeRose (b. 1991, Orlando Fla.; lives and works in Los Angeles) has exhibited widely in the U.S. and internationally and his work is held in numerous private collections. Alongside his studio practice, he has worked closely with Sterling Ruby since 2018, overseeing projects across a broad range of scales and contexts — from multi-ton bronze installations to couture collaborations — spanning nearly every medium and mode of contemporary cultural production. As a seasoned art professional, DeRose combines deep hands-on experience with a rigorous command of the theoretical and technical developments shaping contemporary art today.
