SCAD AnimationFest schedule and tickets

SCAD AnimationFest 2024 features three days of screenings, presentations, and panels on the present and future of animation and digital media. Explore the festival schedule before you purchase passes or tickets.

SCAD is actively monitoring Hurricane Helene. In response to current forecasts, the SCAD AnimationFest schedule has been updated.

SCAD Card holders may view the updated schedule below. All other ticket holders will receive full refunds for SCAD AnimationFest events.

SCAD will continue to assess conditions as the storm progresses and provide further updates as needed. Check back for possible updates to programming.

The Making of 'Creature Commandos' from Warner Bros. Animation

Location: SCADshow, Main Stage

Creature Commandos, from executive producer and writer James Gunn, tracks a secret team of incarcerated monsters recruited for missions deemed too dangerous for humans. When all else fails, they're your last, worst option. Prepare for an in-depth look into the artistry and creative processes behind this highly anticipated series kicking off the new era of storytelling in the DC Universe. Based on DC Comics characters and produced by DC Studios and Warner Bros. Animation, Creature Commandos is coming soon to Max.

SCAD Animation Studios offers students from different university disciplines the opportunity to work together on professional-style film projects under the tutelage of accomplished SCAD professors. Join the student filmmakers of the SCAD Animation Studios film Chelita, Como me Duele Quererte for an inside look on their film, a story that follows a clumsy young baker who tries to reconnect with his first love after discovering she has become an adelita, or female soldier, in the Mexican Revolution.

A screening of Chelita, Como me Duele Quererte will follow the presentation.

Behind the Blade of Netflix's 'Blue Eye Samurai'

Get a snapshot into the creative inspirations of Netflix's Annie Award and Emmy Award-winning Blue Eye Samurai and explore the show's development process, as explained through its visual development images. Set in Edo-period Japan, Blue Eye Samurai follows Mizu, a self-trained samurai on a mission of revenge.

'Common Side Effects' Series Preview

Be one of the first to preview the first episode of Common Side Effects, a new series coming to Adult Swim in 2025. Co-created by Joe Bennett and Steve Hely and executive produced by Mike Judge and Greg Daniels, Common Side Effects follows Marshall and Frances, two former high school lab partners who share a secret: Marshall has discovered the world's greatest medicine, a mushroom that can heal almost anything. But getting it out into the world won't be easy — the DEA, big pharma, and international businessmen are all on the chase to stop them. The half-hour serialized comedic thriller is produced by Bandera and Green Street Pictures.

Join student filmmakers as they present Time Flies, a story about how two flies make the most of their life — which just happens to be one day long.

Legends of Animation: Genndy Tartakovsky Keynote

Presented by: Genndy Tartakovsky

Widely regarded as a leading industry visionary, five-time Emmy Award winner Genndy Tartakovsky has created some of the most highly acclaimed animated projects of the last few decades. Tartakovsky is credited with shaping the prominence of Cartoon Network and Adult Swim, where he developed the hit animated series Dexter's Laboratory, Samurai Jack, Star Wars: Clone Wars, Sym-Bionic Titan, and Primal. His celebrated feature film work includes the Golden Globe Award-nominated Hotel Transylvania as well as its two sequels and spinoff shorts. In this comprehensive career retrospective, Tartakovsky will share the details of his remarkable journey with images, clips, and behind the scenes anecdotes, plus a glimpse of what's next for the animation icon.

The SCAD Award of Excellence will be presented to Tartakovsky prior to his keynote address.
