Liangyi He thesis exhibition: 'A Solitary Gourmet'
SCAD presents "A Solitary Gourmet," a thesis exhibition by Liangyi He (M.F.A. photography). Focusing on still life, Liangyi He’s current work is an exploration of symbolism of food and natural materials. The artist creates photographic tableaux of fish surrounded by fruit, vegetables, flowers and other organic material, offering viewers glimpses into sumptuous worlds, with the fish serving as a personification of the artist’s experiences.
Liangyi He’s artwork examines the complexities of decision-making as one shapes his or her value system in accordance with social norms. Inspired by her awareness of the disparity of values between older generations and younger, Liangyi He explores life choices through symbolism and metaphor. She depicts a fish on its journey through maturing, and sees this protagonist as a representation of knowledge, wisdom, and freedom from restrictions.
Liangyi He’s work is currently displayed in the lightboxes in the front of SCAD Atlanta. A passionate food photographer, she has had two books published in China.
"A Solitary Gourmet" is held in conjunction with Atlanta Celebrates Photography.
