Reception for Stephanie Eley exhibition: 'Invisible to Others'

Friday, March 27, 2015

Trois Gallery

Atlanta, GA

1600 Peachtree St. NW

"Invisible to Others" addresses the limitations of photography as a medium for the visually impaired, a group that has been traditionally excluded from the fine art gallery. In examining this community, M.F.A. photography student Stephanie Eley creates new, inclusive ways in which works of art can be presented through secondary senses as well as sight. "Invisible to Others" features work about and for those with visual impairments and includes hands-on, three-dimensional presentations of portraits, alternative processes and soundscapes.

This exhibition invites the viewer to explore light stimulation entwined with the use of Braille. Alongside photographs are tactile embossed diptychs, inspired from diagnostic tools used to gauge levels of perception. Welcoming both the sighted and visually impaired, this exhibition presents various ways to perceive art.

Gallery hours: Monday-Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

The exhibition and reception are free and open to the public.
