Carina D. Maye exhibition: "The Troubled Seat"
The SCAD exhibition department presents M.F.A. sculpture student Carina D. Maye's most recent body of work, "The Troubled Seat." Maye uses mixed media and assemblage to narrate the contentions minorities face in education, as well as their link to the larger concerns of the defective educational structure. "The Troubled Seat" directs attention to the unrecognized students who are forced to participate in the American public education system. The title is inspired by the writings of historian Carter G. Woodson and his critical analyses of the education of African-Americans.
The exhibition is free and open to the public.
