Make history at SCAD FASHION 2024 with honorees Aurora James, An Le, and Julian Robaire
André Leon Talley was a passionate champion of SCAD whose invaluable contributions to the university and to the global fashion industry are embodied in the André Leon Talley Award. With this namesake honor, SCAD continues to commemorate his legacy, celebrating new changemakers who join an elite echelon that includes Vivienne Westwood, Miuccia Prada, Oscar de la Renta, Diane von Furstenberg, Ralph Rucci, Marc Jacobs, Vera Wang, and more.
As creative director and founder of luxury accessories brand Brother Vellies, Aurora James uplifts global cultural traditions, supporting artisan communities around the world. A vice chair of the Council of Fashion Designers of America, James is also the founder of the nonprofit advocacy organization Fifteen Percent Pledge, channeling the collective creativity of the design community to make the global economy a more equitable place for historically excluded groups. One of TIME Magazine’s 100 Most Influential People, she goes beyond inspirational, sparking actionable change. SCAD presents James with the 2024 André Leon Talley Award in recognition of her infallible vision and dedication to advocacy. An illuminating conversation with James will follow the award presentation.
Lauding graduates whose careers ascend to the height of culture and entrepreneurship, the SCAD45 Award is one of the university’s most prestigious recognitions for SCAD alumni. With this totem of excellence presented as part of SCAD’s 45th year, the university celebrates the extraordinary creativity of An Le (B.F.A., photography, 2012) and Julian Robaire (B.F.A., fashion, 2013) at SCAD FASHION 2024. Co-founder of international creative lab Now Open, Le transcends categorization. From traditional visuals to experimental aesthetics, his studio specializes in global campaigns for luxury clients. As Director of Chanel’s VIP Atelier, Robaire merges conceptual and technical skill to sculpt evocative garments, translating his inspiration into three-dimensional works embodying sartorial expertise.
