SCAD Savannah Commencement 2023

Congratulations, SCAD class of 2023! Celebrate your accomplishments at the SCAD Savannah Presidential Conferment and Presentation of Degrees ceremonies taking place at 9 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Friday, June 2, and Saturday, June 3.  For loved ones who cannot attend in person, all ceremonies will stream live online on YouTube.

During the event, students hear from distinguished students and alumni, as well as heartfelt remarks from SCAD President and Founder Paula Wallace as she confers degrees.

Each graduate will receive four guest tickers prior to Commencement.

Registration is not required to view the Presidential Conferment and Presentation of Degrees ceremonies as they stream live online.

SCADnow graduate

SCADnow online learning graduates are invited to participate in the Presidential Conferment and Presentation of Degrees ceremonies in Savannah. All other students are invited to participate in the Commencement program for the SCAD location at which they are enrolled.

Ticket allotment

For the Savannah Presidential Conferment and Presentation of Degrees ceremonies, each graduate is allotted four guest tickets.

SCAD does not regulate the private redistribution of tickets and strictly forbids the sale of Commencement tickets.

Where do I park?
There is limited parking at the Savannah Convention Center. No more than one vehicle per graduate/family can be accommodated. Rideshares are welcome, and families staying downtown are encouraged to take advantage of the free ferries that operate throughout the day beginning at 7 a.m.

Cars cannot be left at the guest parking lots between ceremonies. When your student’s ceremony is complete, please return to your vehicle and exit the premises to make room for the next ceremony’s guests.

Students who decide to drive to the Savannah Convention Center must ride with their family or take a rideshare. Graduates may not drive and park separately from their guests due to parking constraints. For your convenience, SCAD has included a transportation map of the Savannah Convention Center.

Shuttles will be available to take guests from the parking areas to a drop-off point within a 5- to 10-minute walk of the Savannah Convention Center. ADA parking is available, and the venue is wheelchair accessible. Guests are advised to bring their own wheelchair.

Will SCAD provide transportation for graduates?
Yes, transportation from SCAD will be provided for graduates. Students may park at the SCAD Indian Street Garage, 645 Indian St., and ride a SCAD shuttle to the Savannah Convention Center. Shuttles will begin looping at 6:30 a.m. Bring your SCAD ID card to access the Indian Street Garage and the ceremony.

Is the university providing transportation for guests from SCAD?
Transportation will not be provided from SCAD for guests. Guests are encouraged to carpool as parking is very limited at the venue.

When is the deadline to order a cap and gown?
At this time, the deadline to order a cap and gown, April 27, had passed.

Do I need a cap and gown to participate?
A cap and gown are required to participate in the on-ground Presidential Conferment and Presentation of Degrees ceremonies.

What is the deadline to record my name for Marching Order?
The deadline to record your name pronunciation is Monday, May 8.

When can graduates expect to receive their diplomas?
During the ceremony, graduates will receive a congratulatory letter from SCAD President and Founder Paula Wallace inside their SCAD diploma cover. The actual diploma will be mailed once spring grades are submitted and the student's graduation requirements are confirmed.

Graduates can expect to receive their diploma within 12 weeks of Commencement at the mailing address they provided on their graduation application.

Each graduate will be allotted four tickets to be distributed to their guests.

What is the security policy for the ceremonies?
All guests are required to pass through a metal detector or wand to ensure the safety of ceremony guests.

What is the bag policy?
Large bags, including but not limited to backpacks, suitcases, large camera bags, and large purses, are not allowed in the venue. All bags, purses, and packages are subject to inspection before entry to the venue.
