Learn the nuances of commissioning art at SCAD deFINE ART 2020 panel
The SCAD deFINE ART 2020 professional practices panel brings together a stellar group of art-world insiders to discuss the particularities of the often-complex process of commissioning art. Hailing from private institutions, public and corporate programs, these specialists will speak about their experiences — both challenges and successes — in the creation of artwork for specific conditions and spaces.
Speakers include Emma Enderby and Jennie Lamensdorf. The panel is moderated by Till Fellrath, who also serves as SCAD Museum of Art guest curator.
Fellrath is one of the curators of the 2019 National Pavilion of the United Arab Emirates at the Venice Biennale, a chair of the Montblanc Cultural Foundation in Hamburg, Germany, and affiliate curator at the Martin-Gropius-Bau in Berlin. He has also jointly curated numerous critically acclaimed exhibitions at renowned museums and institutions worldwide.
Enderby is the senior curator at The Shed, New York, where she organized the retrospective exhibition Agnes Denes: Absolutes and Intermediates, as well as Collision/Coalition, Open Call, and Trisha Donnelly. She has also served as an adjunct curator at Public Art Fund, a curator at the Serpentine Galleries, London, and the project co-curator for the Serpentine Pavilion commission by SelgasCano.
Lamensdorf is an independent curator and the co-founder of Forward Union, a coalition-building initiative that connects social justice organizations, artists, and creative communities. Her work expands audiences for contemporary art by bringing challenging and engaging work to nontraditional exhibition spaces. Lamensdorf is the Bay Area lead of the global Facebook Art Department, which includes the Artist in Residence (FB AIR), Analog Research Lab, and Creative Engagement programs.
This event is free and open to the public. It is presented as part of SCAD deFINE ART 2020, the university’s annual program of exhibitions, lectures, and performances held Feb. 18–20 at locations in Atlanta and Savannah, Georgia.
