Submission Requirements

Surf's Up Surfboard Design Challenge submissions are divided into two parts:

• Phase I: Digital submissions, which must be ready for reproduction.
• Phase II: Mounted submissions for accepted pieces.

Because the winning designs will be scaled up to full size, designing in a vector-based program such as Adobe Illustrator CS is strongly recommended and preferred.

Phase I: Digital Submission Requirements

Contestants must submit their digital files for adjudication, inspection, and review. Submissions must be ready for reproduction. Contestants are responsible for pre-flighting their files for quality assurance. Technical issues that prevent the work from being printed at full size may disqualify the submission.

The committee reserves the right to reject improperly formatted or incorrectly named files.

Each contestant must submit two files with his or her entry:
• A JPEG file, which will be used for the judging panel
• A PDF file, which will be used for printing and reproduction

For the judging panel, use this file format:
• JPEG (quality 12), 300 dpi, Adobe RGB 1998
• Use the naming convention SurfsUp_202020_FOUN_Title_FirstName_LastName.jpg (e.g., SurfsUp_202020_FOUN_Hang_Ten_Jody_Smith.jpg)

For printing and reproduction, use this file format:
• PDF (optimized). Editing capabilities must be preserved when exporting or saving the file as a PDF, as minor adjustments may need to be made to accommodate printing.
• Use the naming convention SurfsUp_202020_FOUN_Print_FirstName_LastName.pdf (e.g., SurfsUp_202020_FOUN_Print _Jody_Smith.pdf)

All entries must be submitted digitally using a link via OneDrive or WeTransfer. Use only a link through one of these file transfer services; do not attach the file to your submission email. Send the email with the subject line "Surf's Up 2020." Contestants must use their SCAD student email address.

Phase II: Mounted Submission Requirements

All accepted pieces must be mounted to the chipboard backing or substrate, which will be provided on or by Monday, March 2. A before-and-after example of how the mounted design should appear will be included in the rules packet.

Contestants are responsible for printing and mounting the work to the substrate provided.

Entries accepted from registered SCAD eLearning students may be displayed on a monitor placed at the exhibition. This applies only to accepted SCAD eLearning students who are unable to collect the substrate or chipboard backing due to geographic limitations.

Awards

Two grand prize winners will have their designs fabricated at full size as well as receive $800 each. The first runner-up receives, $500 and the second runner-up receives $300.
