SCAD 2019 Commencement in Atlanta
Join us as we honor and celebrate the Class of 2019 at the SCAD Atlanta Commencement ceremony.
SCAD Atlanta Commencement ceremony: 3 p.m.
Celebrate commencement and hear remarks from SCAD President and Founder Paula Wallace, honored guests, alumni and distinguished graduates. Delight in the alma mater, "Unique, United," and other special performances and surprises.
During the ceremony, deans and chairs review each school's achievements before students are called to walk across the stage and receive their diploma covers.
Is handicapped-accessible seating available for family members?
Handicapped-accessible seating is available for guests who require special accommodations for a disability. Because of limited handicapped-accessible seating, we encourage families who need such seating to arrive early. Email [email protected] to request special seating arrangements.
How early should we arrive?
Doors open two hours prior to the ceremony start time.
Can I bring my bag?
For the comfort of all guests, large bags including backpacks, suitcases, large camera bags and large purses are not allowed in the venue. All purses, bags and packages are subject to inspection before entry to the venue, and all attendees will be required to pass through metal detectors to ensure the safety of ceremony guests.
Do graduates need to attend a graduation meeting?
Every graduating student should attend the Commencement Participation Meeting 1 p.m. Friday, April 19, in SCAD Atlanta, Room 256. Additionally, graduates will need to attend the Commencement Rehearsal 4 p.m. Friday, May 31, at the Georgia World Congress Center, Building C.
Do graduates need to order a cap and gown?
Students need to order their cap, gown and academic regalia from Oak Hall Cap and Gown by Friday, May 17. Graduating students should visit the graduation blog for information on ordering these items.
How many tickets does each graduate receive?
Each graduate will receive four tickets to the commencement ceremony.
Where do graduates pick up their tickets?
Graduates will need to pick up their commencement tickets from the SCAD Atlanta Student Success Center during regular business hours between Monday, May 20 and Thursday, May 30. Graduates must present their SCAD Card to receive commencement tickets.
How can families secure additional ceremony tickets?
Additional tickets cannot be requested in advance; however, unused tickets will be distributed to guests in the simulcast line prior to each ceremony. Guests needing additional tickets are encouraged to arrive early. A live simulcast is available for guests without tickets in the Georgia World Congress Center. Additionally, all ceremonies are livestreamed via scad.edu/commencement so that family members around the globe can enjoy the moment and celebrate.
Prior to the ceremonies, families with extra tickets to give away, as well as those seeking additional tickets, are encouraged to post on the SCAD Atlanta 2019 Commencement Facebook page to facilitate a free exchange of tickets.
Where can we order graduation announcements and class rings?
Graduation announcements and official SCAD class rings can be ordered through Herff Jones.
Are graduation photos available to purchase after the ceremony?
Formal graduation portraits will be available from GradImages and can be taken prior to the ceremony. No appointment is necessary. Photos of students receiving their diploma are not available for purchase.
When can graduates expect to receive their diploma?
During the ceremony, graduates will receive a congratulatory letter from President Wallace inside their SCAD diploma cover. The actual diploma will be mailed once spring grades are submitted and the student’s graduation requirements are confirmed. Graduates can expect to receive their diploma within 12 weeks of commencement at the mailing address they provided on their graduation application.
Where do we park for the commencement ceremony?
Limited parking, including ADA parking, will be available for a fee at the Georgia World Congress Center on a first-come, first-served basis.
Guest shuttle
Free shuttle service is offered between SCAD Atlanta and the Georgia World Congress Center. Shuttles will loop between the two locations every 15 minutes starting at noon.
