Join SCAD AT MIAMI in honoring Carla Fernández, Pedro Reyes at exhibition and award presentation

View the exhibition created by 2018 Visionary Award recipients Carla Fernández and Pedro Reyes at Design Miami/.

Reyes and Fernández artwork brilliantly synthesizes a spectrum of influences — from Brutalism to Mexican indigenous culture to social progressive values — into a remarkable body of work. The practice of Carla Fernández, the eponymous brand in Mexico City, stands at the forefront of ethical fashion to preserve and bring visibility to indigenous processes by collaborating with diverse communities in Mexico, ultimately provoking a shift in common notions of luxury.

Equally concerned about “planned obsolescence,” Reyes’ multidisciplinary works integrate elements of theater, psychology and activism, and often take the form of site-specific installations, musical recitals, lectures, therapy sessions, games and more. Some of his most emblematic projects repurpose objects, and using dialogue as a vehicle, he also investigates issues of citizenship and social betterment. While at Design Miami/, Fernández and Reyes will co-design an exhibition that will be on view at the SCAD Museum of Art as part of SCAD deFINE ART 2019.

This year, SCAD is honored to be the official university partner of Design Miami/, a design forum that brings together the most influential collectors, galleries, designers, curators and critics from around the world in celebration of design culture and commerce. As part of this six-day event, SCAD will co-present the 2018 Design Miami/ Visionary Award to Fernández and Reyes.
