SCAD presents alumni works at Art Central
Central Harbourfront
SCAD presents select artwork of notable alumni at Art Central, Hong Kong’s exciting new contemporary art fair.
SCAD’s booth (G8) will feature a site-specific silk flower installation by Gyun Hur (M.F.A., sculpture, 2009) titled, “A Replication of My Mother's Wedding Blanket No. 2.” Hur currently serves as a foundation studies professor at SCAD Hong Kong. She was named one of Atlanta, Georgia’s most acclaimed artists by burnaway.org and won the Hudgens Prize for her work.
Light installation “Executive Function,” by Savannah, Georgia-based artist Michael Porten (M.F.A., painting, 2012, B.F.A., illustration, 2004), features five light boxes with multi-colored prints mounted on the wall. Porten’s work has been exhibited in galleries around the world including New York City; Savannah; Miami, Florida; Hong Kong; and Lacoste, France. He has been featured in “New American Paintings,” the Oxford American magazine and Metropolis magazine.
Also on view will be “Cougar Meets Cougar,” an acrylic painting on canvas by Jonathan Yoerger (M.F.A., painting, 2011, B.F.A., illustration, 2008), inspired by the animal-print fashion on the streets of Hong Kong. A professor of painting at SCAD Hong Kong, Yoerger’s work has been shown throughout the U.S. including Chicago, Illinois; Atlanta; and Nashville, Tennessee; and internationally in France, India and Hong Kong.
SCAD students and alumni are advocated by the university as they forge professional practices and careers in the realm of art and design. As Art Central’s official university partner, SCAD will also conduct free educational tours highlighting works on view and providing insight into contemporary art.
