Theory and Practice in Sound Design
This course emphasizes the use and developments of sound in historic and contemporary media. Through analysis of the interrelationship between sound, culture and media theory, students develop a vocabulary for describing, and thereby begin to understand, the complexities of sound in media. Small research projects throughout the quarter give students an opportunity to develop the skills necessary for successful completion of the written component of sound design thesis project. The research projects are complimented by short studio projects that interpret topics discussed in class. Prerequisite(s): ARTH 701.
