Luca Missoni

Artistic director, Missoni Archive

Wearing many (stylish) hats for his family's famed fashion brand, Missoni, founded by his parents Ottavio and Rosita Missoni in 1953, Luca Missoni has directed knitwear research and product development; designed the men's and sport collections; and headed the heritage and archival departments. Today, he is the artistic director of the Missoni Archive. Developed as a research tool and a communication project to enhance the historical and artistic heritage of the brand, works from the Missoni archive are pulled to curate museum exhibitions including visual and performing arts projects. Missoni has long established itself within the worlds of fashion, lifestyle, and textile design, demonstrating absolute quality and uniqueness through material, shape, and color. Additionally, what began as a personal fascination, Missoni's work has expanded to his own artwork, with the moon acting as his muse. Built on more than 20 years of telescopic observation and literature collection on the cosmic body, Missoni's collection of moon-centric works personifies the planetoid through dramatic portraits in a multitude of colors.
