Cory Imig, SCAD at Miami 2022

Cory Imig

Based in Kansas City, Mo., artist Cory Imig alters spaces — physically, visually, and temporally — in site-sensitive works that manipulate perceptual shifts in reality. She has exhibited across the U.S. at venues including the Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art, the SCAD Museum of Art, and Southwest School of Art, San Antonio. She is a 2020 recipient of the Charlotte Street Foundation Visual Artist Award and has participated in residencies at Art Omi, ACRE, and Vermont Studio Center. Imig is a founding member of PLUG Projects (2011-15), a curatorial collaboration in the Stockyards District of Kansas City; Say Uncle (2015-18), a nomadic residency and exhibition program in Central Illinois; and Beyond Alternatives (2018), a symposium focused on artist-led projects happening outside of large metropolitan areas. She is currently collaborating on a large-scale multiyear project, Impractical Spaces, with Paddy Johnson that documents the history of artist-run spaces across the U.S. Imig graduated from SCAD in 2008 with a B.F.A. in fibers and earned an M.F.A. from the University of Illinois Champaign-Urbana in 2018.
