Gil Schafer, AIA
A leading expert on contemporary classical architecture, Gil Schafer is among the most sought-after residential design practitioners today. His command of spatial environments potently complements his concept of the home. He holds a master of architecture from Yale and authored the bestselling trilogy The Great American House, A Place to Call Home, and Home at Last. One of Architectural Digest’s AD100, a Veranda Art of Design Award winner, and a recipient of the Arthur Ross Award for Architecture, Schafer is widely published by the press and featured in more than three dozen books on design. Subject of the Emmy-nominated PBS documentary Design in Mind: Unlocking the Mysteries of Place, he serves on the Yale School of Architecture Dean’s Council and the board of the Thomas Jefferson Foundation. The Institute of Classical Architecture & Art — the foremost resource for the classical tradition in architecture and the allied arts — named Schafer president, then chair, for more than a decade. He is founding partner of the firm Schafer & Company, which opened in 2002 as G. P. Schafer Architect.
