Sarah Fonzi
B.F.A., sculpture, 2008
A sculptor and designer based in Buffalo, N.Y., Sarah Fonzi (b. 1986) explores repetition as a translation of human nature imbued by the built environment. Creating patterns and motifs in large plaster reliefs, she considers globalization, women's labor, domesticity in private versus public spaces, and the Anthropocene as themes in her visual narratives. Fonzi's sculptures and installations are collected and on permanent display widely across New York state. Her practice extends beyond the studio, anchoring value into community engagement through which she has helped establish The Foundry, a nonprofit organization where she has taught hundreds of students in Buffalo, N.Y., how to weld.
