George Yabu
The co-founder and partner of Yabu Pushelberg, a design studio with an expansive purview, George Yabu is a holistic practitioner whose background in interiors lends itself to unexpected spaces. Yabu Pushelberg designs places and products: immersive environments, compelling destinations, and considered goods. With Glenn Pushelberg, Yabu established the studio in 1980 with an emphasis on interior design that embraces the many layers of the human experience. With offices in New York and Toronto and a team of more than 100 creatives and professionals, the studio focuses on the emotional impact of design beyond just aesthetics, specializing in sensibilities that span architecture, interiors, landscapes, lighting, furniture, objects, and graphics. The studio's multidisciplinary philosophy is informed by endless curiosity driven by partnerships with thoughtful, creative people. Evolving to encompass all aspects of design, each new Yabu Pushelberg venture reflects an edited approach that is imaginative, thoughtful, and honest — continuously shifting between the rational and the intuitive. Raised in Toronto, Yabu became interested in what was largely an unknown industry. A graduate of Ryerson University, he was awarded an honorary doctorate of interior design in 2003. Yabu is an avid traveler to more than 125 countries, eager to explore and learn from other cultures motivated by the evolving global landscape. A spirit of exploration and attention to detail remain a hallmark of his work.
