The Stage
Part of the expansive Savannah Film Studios, the largest and most comprehensive film production complex in higher education, The Stage is home to SCAD Savannah's cutting-edge LED volume stage — one of two owned and operated by the university. This next-generation technology combines camera tracking and real-time rendering to create immersive virtual environments, visible live on set and shot directly in camera.
The 2,000-square-foot LED volume stage was designed exclusively for SCAD in collaboration with Atlanta-based Meptik, an experiential design and virtual production company co-founded by SCAD alum Sarah Linebaugh (M.F.A., motion media design, 2014). Both of SCAD’s LED volume stages utilize Unreal Engine to create 3D real-time environments, a real-time graphics workflow by Disguise, and a Red Komodo 6K camera and stYpe RedSpy camera tracking system.
SCAD purchased the warehouse-style building adjacent to the original Savannah Film Studios property in 2019 and renovated it for use as production space before The Stage was opened in 2021. In addition to its LED volume and backlot, the 11-acre Savannah Film Studios complex also houses soundstages, postproduction suites, a film field office, production spaces for set design and costume design, and classroom space.
