SCAD Beach
Located just west of the SCAD Museum of Art, SCAD Beach immerses students and guests in a calming, laid-back space for friend gatherings, social events, outdoor games, wellness activities, and performances. Featuring sable palms, real sand, and mood-setting ambient lighting, this relaxing atmosphere invites visitors to enjoy sun or shade in beach cabanas and hanging lounges. A full-scale lifeguard stand completes the overall beach aesthetic of the space and doubles as an audio/video booth for an adjacent 36-foot stage.
Sited on the former footprint of the Central of Georgia Railway Depot — the oldest surviving pre-Civil War railroad depot in the U.S. — the 16,000-square-foot courtyard enjoys respite from Savannah’s bustling downtown historic district courtesy of the depot’s surviving Savannah Gray brick walls. SCAD Beach was brought to creative realization by SCAD Design Group as part of the university’s Clark Hall renovation project.
