Roberto Carlos Lange

Roberto Carlos Lange (B.F.A., computer art, 2003), who performs as Helado Negro, is a South Florida native born to Ecuadorian immigrants and based in Brooklyn. Exploring Latinx identity and pluralistic sensibilities, his music as Helado Negro is lyrically personal and politically avant-pop. In 2019, he was awarded a United States Artists Fellowship and received a Grants to Artists award from the Foundation for Contemporary Arts. Lange is a consummate collaborator, working on projects with numerous artists including Sufjan Stevens, Julianna Barwick (as Ombre), Devendra Banhart, Helga Davis, and David Ellis. As Helado Negro, he has presented work in diverse venues, from music festivals like Coachella in California and Vive Latino in Mexico City, to cultural organizations including The Getty Center, Los Angeles; the Wexner Center for the Arts, Columbus, Ohio; the Pérez Art Museum Miami; and The Museum of Modern Art, New York.
