Derrick Adams
Derrick Adams is a multidisciplinary New York-based artist working in performance, video, sound, and 2-D and 3-D realms. His practice focuses on the fragmentation and manipulation of structure and surface, exploring self-image and forward projection.
A recipient of a 2009 Louis Comfort Tiffany Award and 2014 S.J. Weiler Award, Adams earned an M.F.A. degree from Columbia University, New York, New York, and a B.F.A. degree from Pratt Institute, Brooklyn, New York. He is an alumnus of Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture, Skowhegan, Maine.
Adams' exhibition and performance highlights include: "Greater New York," MoMA PS1, Long Island City, New York; "Open House: Working in Brooklyn," Brooklyn Museum of Art, Brooklyn, New York; "PERFORMA," New York; "Radical Presence & The Shadows Took Shape," Studio Museum in Harlem, New York; "The Channel," Brooklyn Academy of Music, New York; and is in the permanent collections of The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York; Studio Museum in Harlem; Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, Richmond; and the Birmingham Museum of Art, Alabama.
His work can be seen in New York at Tilton Gallery; Rhona Hoffman Gallery, Chicago; Galerie Anne de Villepoix, Paris; and Vigo Gallery, London.
