Imran Amed
As founder, CEO and editor-in-chief of The Business of Fashion, Imran Amed is one of the global fashion industry’s leading writers, thinkers and commentators.
BoF, which began from Amed’s sofa in 2007 as a passion project, sparked a new kind of fashion dialogue, exploring the key drivers of an industry undergoing unprecedented change. Social media and new technology were about to explode onto the fashion landscape, new markets in China, India and Brazil were rapidly rising in importance, and the financial crisis of 2008 created a step-change in consumer values and expectations. From its humble beginnings as a blog, today BoF has grown into the preeminent resource for the fashion industry, with more than 1 million unique visitors per month and more than 3 million followers on social media from 200 countries around the world.
In 2017, Amed was appointed by Queen Elizabeth II as a Member of the Order of the British Empire for services to the fashion industry. In 2016, he received the Council of Fashion Designers of America’s Media Award in Honor of Eugenia Sheppard. He has been named in Fast Company’s annual list of the "100 Most Creative People in Business," British GQ’s list of "The 100 Most Influential Men in Britain," Indian GQ’s list of the "50 Most Influential Global Indians" and Wired UK’s list of the 100 most influential figures in Britain’s digital economy.
Amed was born in Calgary, Canada. He has an M.B.A. from Harvard Business School in Boston, Massachusetts, and a B.Com. from McGill University in Montreal, Canada.
