Dan Cameron


Dan Cameron is a New York-based curator, art writer, and educator who rose to prominence in 1982 with the exhibition Extended Sensibilities at the New Museum, New York, which was the first curatorial effort in the U.S. to examine gay and lesbian identity and visibility in contemporary art. In the 40 years since, Cameron has held senior curatorial positions at the New Museum; Orange County Museum of Art, Santa Ana, Calif.; and Contemporary Arts Center, New Orleans. In 2008 Cameron founded the contemporary art triennial Prospect New Orleans, which recently concluded a successful 5th edition, to benefit the city after Hurricane Katrina. Cameron has organized numerous biennials and other major exhibitions around the world, authored hundreds of published texts on contemporary art, and taught and lectured at various museums and universities. Cameron published a book on the paintings of Nicole Eisenman in 2021 with Lund Humphries. His mid-career survey of Leandro Erlich's sculptures will open at the Pérez Art Museum Miami in November 2022.
