Zhenjie Dong exhibition: "Recreating Myth"

The SCAD exhibitions department presents "Recreating Myth," an exhibition by M.F.A. photography student Zhenjie Dong. This project works on transforming traditional Chinese signs and endows them with new meanings that address social and political issues in contemporary China. In order to reveal the corrupted reality under the harmonious surface created by the authority, Dong uses a variety of materials to construct images that refer to myths of a harmonized and peaceful reality as found in traditional Chinese art forms. She also includes QR codes, which are within the works, that resemble the traditional Chinese stamp and serve as links to particular political events. Through processes of deconstruction and reconstruction, this project critically addresses the relationship between authority and myth. The exhibition and reception are free and open to the public.
