Rhett Scott

Rhett Scott (SCAD M.F.A. painting; SCAD B.F.A., painting, 2013) is an Atlanta-based contemporary artist. In his work, he deals with concepts of reality and simulation, employing strategies in which they coexist and manifest into landscapes of marks and objects that render the contemporary digital age. Scott's creative process marries theory and materiality. Using various painterly devices to achieve a trompe l'oeil effect with mundane materials like spray paint, he transforms the flat picture plane into confounding 3D illusions. His distinct vocabulary fuses an amalgam of influences as various as grunge, graffiti, sneaker and skater culture, African masks, his Southern upbringing, and wild animals.
