Indian Art and Architecture annual exhibition

Students from Indian Art and Architecture present an annual exhibition of works inspired from the motifs of the monkey and the crocodile used extensively in the art and architecture of India. The crocodile is representative of fertility and serves as a vehicle for river goddesses of India. The monkey's status ranges from the super heroic Hanuman, to Monkey-King of the Jatak tale where he teaches important lessons of selfless duty to an Indian king.Students taking the Indian Art and Architecture class have assimilated one or both of these motifs in their fields of majors to create original artworks inspired by the Indian aesthetic theories, still remaining true to their own styles.A reception will take place May 29 at 10:30 a.m. in the New York Room at SCAD Atlanta.
