Francisco Costa


Francisco Costa, a Brazilian fashion designer, was the womenswear creative director of Calvin Klein Collection for 14 years. Costa began his career in New York City designing for a number of high-end fashion houses. In 1993, Costa began a close collaboration with Oscar de la Renta, a partnership that included work on the designer's signature collection, as well as Pierre Balmain haute couture. In 1998, he was recruited by Tom Ford to join the Gucci design studio, where he became the senior eveningwear designer. Costa joined Calvin Klein's studio in early 2002 and debuted his first collection there in Spring 2004.

Costa has been honored with numerous awards throughout his career. In 2013, he received the André Leon Talley Lifetime Achievement Award from the Savannah College of Art and Design. Costa accepted the Designer of the Year Award on behalf of Calvin Klein Collection at the 2012 Accessories Council Excellence Awards Gala and was honored with the Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum National Design Award for Fashion Design in 2009. He has been named Womenswear Designer of the Year by the Council of Fashion Designers of America twice, first in 2006 and again in 2008.
