SCAD Announces 99 Percent Employment Rate for University Graduates

SAVANNAH, Georgia – The Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) today announced that 99 percent of SCAD spring 2017 alumni were employed, pursuing further education, or both within 10 months of graduation. Further, 90 percent of those alumni are working in the industry for which they studied or in a related creative field. SCAD also reported record enrollment this academic year, with nearly 14,000 students spanning four global locations and an award-winning eLearning program, a nearly 7 percent increase over the previous academic year.

"SCAD engages, enlightens, and elevates creative careers,” says SCAD Founder and President Paula S. Wallace. “This achievement results from SCAD's focused and intentional career preparation. Every aspect of university operations is designed with careers in mind. Students arrive with a dream, and graduate with a career.”

The announcement follows the completion of the SCAD Alumni Employment Survey, a multistep assessment of Spring 2017 alumni conducted by the university’s institutional effectiveness department. The annual evaluation both researches alumni career development and offers ongoing counsel in the pursuit of employment or further education. The study monitored Spring 2017 alumni whose status of employment or continuing education is known or self-reported, both of which contribute to the 99 percent employment rate. These alumni now work for prestigious companies including NBC, Porsche, the CIA, Gensler, IBM, Marvel and Vera Wang.

Working at the forefront of creative industries, SCAD is constantly revising and updating curricula to prepare students with of-the-moment skills and knowledge across academic programs, which include architecture, fashion, animation, graphic design, interior design, performing arts, writing and more. At each of the university’s locations in Savannah and Atlanta, Georgia; Hong Kong; and Lacoste, France, award-winning faculty prepare students for internships and careers with the world’s leading arts, design and technology employers. SCAD also encourages students to imagine careers that do not yet exist and forge new skill sets in preparation for them.

To fulfill its mission, SCAD has cultivated a strategic and intentional approach to professional development. The SCAD Collaborative Learning Center (CLC) allows students to partner with blue-chip companies, including Disney, NASA, and BMW, to create real-world design solutions. To date, nearly 200 students have been offered internships and jobs as a result of their participation in a CLC project. Likewise, the office of career and alumni success supports students from their first year throughout the entirety of their professional careers after graduation. Through industry certifications embedded throughout the more than 100 different degree programs, SCAD benchmarks student readiness. Additionally, a robust schedule of signature events, including the SCAD Savannah Film Festival, SCAD FASHWKND, SCAD GamingFest and SCAD aTVfest, allows the university community unparalleled access to today’s most influential arbiters of art, design and technology.
