Create a Chinese New Year spectacle for SCAD Hong Kong décor design challenge
Kick off the Chinese New Year in style and design your own décor for the 2019 Chinese New Year celebrations at SCAD Hong Kong. Students are invited to put forward their best creative ideas to design the SCAD Hong Kong library space, for a chance to win prizes.
Submission period: Dec. 17, 2018, through Jan. 10, 2019
Notification of selection: Jan. 10
Midpoint presentation: Jan. 12, 3–4 p.m., Room 502
Final presentation: Jan. 14, 1 p.m., Library
Decoration preparation: Jan. 15–Jan. 24
Decoration showcase: Jan. 25–Feb. 28
Eligibility
This design challenge is open to all SCAD Hong Kong students and study abroad students visiting Hong Kong in winter quarter 2019. Entries can be individual or as a team of up to three students.
Awards
Winner (HK$1000): Awarded for outstanding design concept and innovation, aesthetic quality, realistic possibility of execution and representation of cultural relevance.
Top 5 teams (HK$300): Awarded for demonstrating best of creative abilities, active SCAD event participation and improving overall student experience.
Submission guidelines
1. The theme is Chinese New Year. Students must include elements that represent the Year of the Pig and use a red color scheme.
2. Only one submission is allowed per student or team.
3. Submissions can be sent as PDF files to [email protected] or handed in at the library counter, open Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Include your name and student ID number with your submission.
4. The deadline for submissions is 12 p.m. HKT, Thursday, Jan. 10, 2019.
5. Five entrants or teams will be selected and informed before 5:30 p.m. on Jan. 10 via email. Each team will be allocated a 10-minute presentation slot on Jan. 12, and three teams will be selected to enter the final presentation on Jan. 14. The presentation format is open.
6. The winning student or team will be awarded a cash prize to acquire materials for decoration. Basic equipment such as scissors, large paper cutters and cutting boards will be made available in the library.
