SCAD is committed to the pursuit of excellence and welcomes applicants from throughout the world who have the same high standards. SCAD maintains selective admission policies, accounting for a student body that is enthusiastic about the programs of study and capable of advancing rapidly. Admission requirements

New students may enter fall (September), winter (January), spring (March) or summer (June) quarter, although most students begin in the fall. Summer course offerings may be limited.

Financial aid

Approximately 80 percent of SCAD students receive some form of financial assistance through scholarships and grants. Federal and state financial aid programs are available for qualified students. In addition, approximately US$20 million in institutional scholarships is awarded annually to the entering class.

Scholarship recipients are expected to be particularly strong and positive leaders at SCAD, excelling academically and representing SCAD well within the community. Scholarships are available to both United States citizens and non-U.S. citizens and are awarded to entering students prior to first-quarter attendance.

Portfolio requirements

Although portfolios and auditions are not required for undergraduate admission, applicants are encouraged to present performing arts, riding, writing or visual arts portfolios or to audition when possible to enhance the application file and to be considered for scholarships. Students intending to major in performing arts are required to audition prior to declaring the major and are encouraged to audition at time of application for admission to SCAD. All portfolio types should showcase an applicant's best work, presented as professionally as possible. They should demonstrate the applicant's interests in and aptitudes for advanced study and, specifically, potential for success at SCAD.

Applicants are encouraged to submit only their best work. It is not necessary to add extra work if it is not consistently strong. Applicants should not submit work copied from film, television, photographs, magazine/book illustrations or other sources. All materials should be submitted electronically and cannot be returned.

Recognition

Sarah Adams named as outstanding faculty
SCAD eLearning professor Sarah Adams (B.F.A., graphic design, 2004; M.F.A., graphic design, 2006) has been named Outstanding Distance Learning Faculty by the Instructional Technology Council.
Rachel Bristol interns at Disney Design Group
Rachel Bristol, M.A. teaching art student and alumna (B.F.A. graphic design, 2010) will be a creative assistant intern for the Disney Design Group in Lake Buena Vista, Florida.
Kane work at Memories Can't Wait Symposium
Eileen MacAvery Kane (M.F.A., graphic design, 2010) presented "Teacup Secrets" at the Memories Can't Wait Symposium in New York City on Dec. 14. She created this series while at SCAD.

DesignIntelligence has released its 2013 report of "America's Best Architecture & Design Schools," and SCAD has received several accolades, including being home to the country's top undergraduate and graduate interior design programs.
