Student Involvement


SERVE


SERVE is the Savannah College of Art and Design's student-led community service initiative. Student service coordinators facilitate programs that serve local communities while offering students opportunities to gain valuable life skills. SCAD students work with local agencies in a spirit of cooperation while learning the importance of networking, recruiting, project planning, decision-making, promotion, delegating responsibilities and more.

Alternative Spring Break

This is a community-service road trip during SCAD's spring break during which SCAD students volunteer their time to help meet needs in another community. Past ASB groups have traveled to locations including New Orleans; Miami; Cherokee, N.C.; Washington, D.C.; Caretta, W.V.; and Ocean Springs, Miss.

Book Buddies

Book Buddies is a mentoring and reading program in which SCAD students meet weekly with children from Garrison Elementary School, East Broad Elementary School, Union Mission, and Frank Callen Boys and Girls Club.

Habitat for Humanity

Habitat for Humanity is an international organization that exists to offer safe and affordable housing to low-income families. SERVE works with the Coastal Empire chapter to offer regular workdays. During these workdays, students gets hands-on experience building a house from the ground up.

H.E.Art (Healing and Education through Art)

H.E.Art works with cancer survivors at the Anderson Cancer Institute at Memorial Health in Savannah. This project allows students to spend time with patients by doing arts and crafts to liven their day and ease patients of their anxieties at the hospital.

Kid's Cafe

Kid's Cafe is a community-service program that visits charitable organizations and engage students in art projects with local children. The group have visited organizations such as Kayton Homes, Frank Callen Boys & Girls Club, Moses Jackson, Yamacraw, and Midtown Center.

Pet Project

Pet Project visits the Humane Society of Savannah and gives students the opportunity to socialize with dogs and cats in order for the animals to be more easily adopted by future pet owners.

Student Activities Council
The Student Activities Council is the student programming board of the Savannah College of Art and Design. The organization plans and executes educational and recreational events on campus. Through various activities, the council strives to foster a sense of community among SCAD students and aims to heighten their college experience.

SAC encourages the celebration of a diverse student population through collaborative events and supports the cultural development of the local communities by reaching beyond SCAD. SAC promotes student leadership and involvement through general membership as well as opportunities on the executive board.
