Foundation studies consist of studio work augmented by slide lectures, demonstrations, field trips and critiques. In these courses, students learn to manipulate the principles and elements of art while developing technical skills with various tools and media.

Recognition

Stefani Joseph featured in exhibitions
Paintings by foundation studies professor Stefani Joseph were selected for the exhibition "Common Ground: 11 American Artists at Galeria9arte” Sept. 29-Oct. 30 in Lisbon, Portugal. Joseph also had work selected for the 64 Arts National Juried Exhibition at the Buchanan Center for the Arts, Monmouth, Illinois. The exhibition ran Aug. 21-Sept. 19.
Heather Deyling featured in exhibition
Foundation studies professor Heather Deyling was featured in the exhibition “Art in Academia,” Southeastern College Art Conference Members Juried Exhibition, Sept. 11-Oct. 24 at Space 301 in Mobile, Alabama.
Jeff Markowsky featured in group show
Foundation studies professor Jeff Markowsky exhibited work in the group show “In the Flesh II” July 22-Aug. 30 at the Target Gallery in the Torpedo Factory Art Center, Alexandria, Virginia. Learn more.

Foundation studies professor Paula Hoffman is featured in the exhibition “Ghosts of the Heartland” in connection with the International Ibsen Seminar and Theatre Festival Nov. 12-22 in Dhaka, Bangladesh.
