SCAD fibers alum Paola Maldonado

SCAD grad Paola Maldonado (B.F.A., fibers, 2018) finds new ways to elevate walls and interior spaces with her threading of fibers and diverse materials into attention-grabbing works of art. Inspired by nature and its raw materials, her artistry reflects a continuous dialogue among the natural world, craftsmanship, and contemporary design. During a recent SCAD Alumni Atelier residency, she expanded her practice to merge sculpture and ceramics with her fibers work. Maldonado founded Paola M Studio in Quito, Ecuador in 2020, where she creates large-scale custom installations and ceramic wall hangings that emphasize texture, materiality, and form — including one created for the university’s SCAD AT MIAMI exhibition in 2023.
