Rules
To be eligible for SCAD Sidewalk Arts Festival prizes, abide by the following rules and regulations.
Participation
The university continues to prioritize the health and well-being of the SCAD community above all else. For the safety of all participants and in keeping with social distancing protocols, artwork must be completed exclusively by the submitting artist and without in-person assistance from outside parties or collaborators. Only one entry per artist will be judged.
Media
Only 2D artistic mediums will be considered.
- Digital art
- Drawing (including chalk)
- Mixed media
- Painting
- Photography
- Printmaking
Any 3D content will not be judged and will result in disqualification. For questions regarding permissible media, email [email protected].
Accepted mediums include:
- Acrylic
- Casein
- Chalk
- Collage
- Colored pencil
- Digital art
- Gouache
- Graphite
- Handmade paper
- Ink
- Oil
- Oil pastel
- Mixed media (all water media or oil-based media)
- Mixed media collage
- Silver or other metal point
- Watercolor
- Wax and other crayons
Prohibited mediums include:
- Costume design
- Motion graphics
- Moving animations
- Sculpture
- Short films and videos
- Sound design
Submission requirements
- File type: .jpg/.jpeg file format only
- File size: Maximum file size 8MB
- Image dimensions: Artwork can be landscape, portrait or square orientation, but the submitted image should be at least 1920 pixels on the longest edge to ensure that it displays properly online. Award eligibility is not dependent on these dimensions, but adhering to them will improve the viewing experience. Most smart phone cameras and other digital cameras meet or exceed this by default.

- Cropping: For the best image quality, we encourage you to crop out any backgrounds or areas of the image that are not part of your artwork. Award eligibility is not dependent on cropping. Please note that a thumbnail crop of your artwork may be automatically created for the virtual sidewalk experience; clicking or tapping on the thumbnail will reveal your full artwork.
Content
Artwork submitted must be original and suitable for public and family viewing. Any artwork that contains nudity, profanity, symbols intended as political statements, explicit images, or other content deemed inappropriate by the university will be disqualified. SCAD is committed to complying with the United States Copyright Act, 17 U.S.C. § 101 et seq.
Winners
Only participants who have correctly submitted their artwork and abided by all competition rules will be eligible to receive prizes. Winners will be announced at 3 p.m. ET, Saturday, May 23, 2020, and will be contacted by email. Prize money will be mailed to winners in the form of a check.
